Workshop in University

Learning English through folk tales

On the  3rd of May we  4 Young leaders from Youth Leadership club Nasredin, Aziza, Madina and me Manizha and Zebo Murodova headed to State University to Foreign languages department .The aim was to meet with freshmen students and  talk English to  inspire them to this language. We choose folk tales as the topic. We were very well prepared. Madina who is fond of drawing drew a beautiful poster about Folk tales and we prepared one Tajik folk tale and wrote each sentence of it in strips. Students shared their favorite folk tale from childhood.
Each sentence on the strip was in Tajik language. Students in team should translate them in 20 minutes.
Through folk tales they learned new words and learned word order in English sentences. Then folk tale was jumbled and they have to put the sentences in right order. Here they showed their team work skills and leadership as well. They all read the story.
Folk tales also helped them to learn a lesson from each tales.

Freshmen students now contributed a folk tale to our folk tale collection. And we will submit their translated folk tale in www.iearn.org/folktale  forum.

At the end Ms Zebo  Murodova shared with them with Folk tale books and Forum magazines. She recommended the future English teachers to read FORUM as she loves that magazine and learned a lot of things from there.

Now we have one more work of the students who love learn English. Young leaders inspired the freshman students not only to their leadership skills but to learning English more deeply.

Feedback from freshmen.
Thanks a lot for visiting us and it was really big day for us. We were first a little bit shy that school children will teach us something. Then we saw how it was friendly atmosphere and lesson was very interesting and we would like that you come more often to our university.
